ASSESSMENT PHILOSOPHY

 

Assessments can be the most stressful part of high school for students, so it is important to develop assessments that are geared toward the students’ learning styles.

 

This will allow students to be able to take the test to the best of their abilities. I plan on creating formal assessments that include multiple choice, short answers, fill in the blank, essays, and more once, I get to know my students.

 

I also plan on designing informal assessments that I can use each class to gauge where my students are excelling, and where they are struggling, which will allow me to modify my lessons accordingly. By providing my students with ample formal and informal assessment opportunities, I believe it will reduce test stress and promote confidence in class content.

 

For summative assessments, I am a huge advocate of projects. Projects give students the opportunity to express what they have learned in a form that best suits their personalities. Students are more excited and engaged in assessments where they have control over what and how they convey what they learned.
